Élan Console and Mirror by Jordan Fleming for New Volumes
It's been wonderful to follow Melbourne furniture and object design Jordan Fleming's journey since we first covered her in the pages of Artichoke in 2021. For this new piece for New Volumes - the Elan Console Table - Jordan has focused on wandering curves and subtle asymmetries. Sculptural yet functional, the console table appears to twist and undulate in balanced asymmetry, its open portal inviting personal expression through objects placed within. Formed from Italian terracotta sourced from the clay-rich hills of Tuscany, each piece reveals the warmth, strength and unpredictability of this ancient material. As Jordan says, "Elan captures movement suspended in stillness. Each piece appears to have been shaped by unseen forces, its contours evolving and unfolding through space," resulting in a console that feels quietly alive.
Ridiculously Good Looking Saunas
Last year, my family and I had to move out of our house for two months while our bathroom got repaired. Our insurer put us up in a house two blocks away, which was double the size of our actual house, had two living rooms, a cocktail bar and came with a record player with an excellent collection of vinyl. But that wasn't even the best bit. The best bit was the sauna and the twice-daily visits to said sauna. Since our two-month stay at Casa con Sauna and saying goodbye to the wooden bucket and ladle, sauna ownership has been top of mind. Until that day arrives, I'll be sweating over this book from Gestalten and the ridiculously good-looking saunas from all over the world. There are five Australian examples amongst the 36 projects within the book, which include remote, off-grid saunas to floating sanctuaries. My favourite has got to be the Kengo Kuma-designed Sazae, a spiral-shaped wonder on Naoshima Island. I wonder if my insurer would send us there next time?
Pleat mirror from Muuto
Full disclosure: I'm not sure if this one is available in Australia yet because it's hot off the press, but if it is, I want it. Designed by Swede Gustav Winsth for Muuto, the mirror reimagines a full length mirror as a sculptural and architectural element. Cut from a single steel sheet and echoing the scale of a doorway, its folded form is interesting and functional at the same time. I like its living artwork quality - the way the reflective surface shifts with the room and light. Add to cart.

This floor lamp is made from brass, linen and cotton and invites viewers to ponder the balance between strength and delicacy. It's structured yet whimsical - a special piece to be collected and treasured for many years.
Utzon outdoor collection from Eco Outdoor
Eco Outdoor's Utzon(s) Collection is an eight-piece outdoor furniture range that honours a rare three-generation design legacy. Created in collaboration with Lin Utzon and Mika Utzon Popov, daughter and grandson of Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon, the collection draws inspiration from a sofa Jørn designed for his family's Mallorca retreat in the 1960s. Crafted from sustainably sourced teak with refined bullnose detailing, truss legs and stainless steel hardware, the Utzon(s) Collection translates modernist heritage into timeless outdoor forms.
